A freelance journalist and Basswood resident. She was romantically involved with Sam before he left Basswood.
The one thing Anna has always wanted to be was herself. Being labeled is a frustration to her and she’s done her best to make sure she doesn’t fit neatly into anyone’s box. It’s a fight that’s cost her a lot, but it also made her resilient and independent. That independence is precious to her, and it’s a big part of why she and Sam ultimately broke up. Even though they’re no longer dating, she still likes him and misses his friendship.
Seeing Sam again is a sweet and sad mixture of emotions for Anna. He was a good friend for years, and she genuinely cared about him as a boyfriend. When he left town he completely cut off all contact, which was hurtful to her for lots of reasons. Not to mention that some of his other mistakes had blowback that involved her family and friends. Their relationship at the start of the game is a textbook example of “it’s complicated.”
