THE DARK PICTURES: MAN OF MEDAN

The Curator is timeless, recording stories of life and death in his own small section of a vast repository containing every story ever told. He’s been doing it for thousands of years, he supposes, but he can't remember when he started, or whether there was ever a beginning to what he does.

Brad is super smart, but he hasn’t quite worked out what he wants from life yet. He’s a WWII history geek, and he’ll probably study that when he goes to college – which he’s deferred for a year. Brad is in the shadow of his brother, Alex. He admires Alex for his achievements and his poise, but he also resents him. He would love to prove himself Alex’s equal.

Alex is an intelligent and diligent high-achiever, who has worked his way up to getting a scholarship to the same Ivy League university as Julia. He’s studying medicine and has the highest grades in his year group. He can't believe his luck that Julia is his girlfriend, but he’s hung up on her money. He’s from a middle-class background and the displays of wealth make him uncomfortable.

Fliss was brought up in hardship on one of the smallest Polynesian islands. She’s always worked hard and made the most of the prospects available to her. She set up a business hiring out a boat to tourists, especially divers. Its hard work and she’s up to her neck in debt to pay for her boat.

Julia has a privileged east coast upbringing. She is closes to her brother Conrad, and though he’s a year older than her, she’s the sensible one that has to keep him in line. She attends an Ivy league university, where she met Alex who is shaping up to be the love of her life.

Conrad has a privileged east coast upbringing. Conrad breezed through college with unremarkable grades but doors always seem to open for him. He’s currently in a holding pattern between college and life where he figures out what he wants to do next.
