By default, ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is set up for play with two other randomly selected players.
However, it’s quite simple to play the game solo or even offline.
Let’s get right to the explanation.
Starting a Solo Expedition
All players are always solo when in the Roundtable Hold, even if they’re online.
The only time you need to change your settings to play a solo game is when starting an expedition.
From the main Roundtable Hold hub, approach the table and activate the expedition interface using the button prompt.

Select the expedition you’d like to begin, and then use the button prompts at the top of the list to switch from the “Target” tab to the “Matchmaking Setting” tab.
This is where you can define a password for inviting 1 to 2 friends or use multiple community passwords for priority random matchmaking with other players in the same community.

At the bottom of this interface, you can see an option labeled “Expedition Type.”
Navigate to this option and use your arrow keys to change Multiplayer to Single player.

And that’s all there is to it! The game will remember your settings, so until you change something, all of your future expeditions will begin as single player expeditions.
If you happen to start a multiplayer expedition, don’t worry.
You can easily cancel out before matchmaking is complete by opening the same interface from the Roundtable Hold table and selecting “Cancel Expedition.”
Starting Offline:
Playing in offline mode is also a possibility.
Using your option button, open the game’s main menu and navigate to the System settings tab, then navigate down to the globe icon called “Network”.

Here, change the third option from the top to “Play offline.”

You will still need to adjust your settings in the expedition menu, but if you try to begin a multiplayer expedition while offline, the game will warn you that this is not possible.
And that’s all there is to it!
Follow these instructions to start a solo expedition simply and quickly.
We hope you will enjoy playing ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN when in launches for PC, PS4 & PS5, and Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on May 30, 2025.
