ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN - Meet the New Nightfarers, Scholar and Undertaker

On December 4th, 2025, the new Forsaken Hollows DLC for ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN will be released.

On that day, two Nightfarers will rejoin the company of those who stand against the Nightlords.

Let’s get to know these two new Nightfarers and their abilities.

Scholar

His travels have taken him both far and wide in search of knowledge, as is fitting for an academic of the School of Hierodas. Unfortunately, he also suffers from a disease that afflicts him with accelerated aging, and his journeys have included a extended search for a cure.

It should surprise no one that Scholar’s magical knowledge is vast. It is his most advanced stat and his arcane stat is superb. It’s clear that status effects are where his focus lies.

His default weapon is a special thrusting sword, a weapon that favors fast attacks with moderate reach and specializes in feint attacks.

Bagcraft – Scholar’s Passive Ability

However you choose to build a Scholar loadout, you should plan to support that build with the use of consumable items. His Bagcraft passive ability allows you to level up the effectiveness of each consumable item category when you use something from that category.

This can mean things like greater damage when using throwing pots or throwing daggers, improved healing or additional effects when using warming stones. There are many more possibilities for you to discover on your next expedition.

Analyze – Scholar’s Character Skill

As a researcher and trained academic, Scholar has the ability to study his surroundings and glean information from the beings he surveils. He can then use this knowledge to either advantage himself with beneficial buffs or disadvantage his targets with temporary debuffs. The longer he can observe a target, the better the effects.

Due to the time it takes to properly study a foe, it is recommended that Scholar players begin their observations at medium distance from their target.

Communion – Scholar’s Ultimate Art

In the pursuit of taboo knowledge, Scholar has discovered the means to link himself and his allies to the fate of their enemies. When this unholy communion takes place, damage that is inflicted on one enemy is shared amongst all linked enemies, with a portion of that damage returned to the attacker as health.

Take care, though. Receiving damage from a linked enemy can snap the thread that connects allies.

Scholar In Combat

It should be clear that, due to his delicate health and arcane focus, Scholar is a Nightfarer who excels at mid-range placement, out of the reach of enemies. In teams, he offers powerful support options that can give everyone an extra edge and magnify damage with his Analyze skill and Communion ultimate.

His Bagcraft passive can make him a very efficient sapper and buffer if supplied with appropriate items. Similarly, FP-restoring weapon passives will help fuel his spellcraft and maintain a strong damage profile.

Undertaker

The abbey chose a lowly and despised Undertaker as their answer to the encroaching darkness, and she answered the call with humility and faith… but also out of a growing sense of connection to the darkness that she fights.

It would be a mistake to assume that her slight statue means that faith is her only defense. When it comes down to it, her strength and her faith are equally matched, making her a powerhouse of heavy physical attacks and of seal-based incantations.

Her default weapon is a cudgel-like hammer that offers faster attacks than the Raider’s massive great axe while still maintaining the ability to bash through heavy armor and take down shields when used with enough persistence.

Confluence – Undertaker’s Passive Ability

As an abbess, Undertaker has the ability to draw on the support of her team. As a creature linked to darkness, she also has the ability to sap that strength from certain enemy attacks.

When a nearby ally activates their Ultimate Art, Undertaker can use that strength to quickly activate her own Ultimate Art, regardless of how full the gauge may be.

This accelerated version of her Loathsome Hex may also be triggered if she closely evades a darkness-infused grab or attack from an enemy.

Trance – Undertaker’s Character Skill

When tapping into the powers of darkness, Undertaker seems to fall into a trance. In this altered state, her toughness increases, and she gains additional attack power for each consecutive attack landed on an enemy.

Her movements become more fluid and dexterous, and she flows swiftly from place to place, closing distance quickly or dipping out of a foe’s reach with style.

If her Ultimate Art gauge is full, she can activate an even deeper trance, a state where she automatically evades incoming attacks.

Loathsome Hex – Undertaker’s Ultimate Art

And here, we see the full manifestation of the Undertaker’s darkness. The uncanny bone that she harbors is revealed as a deadly spear that arrows her towards her target with frightening speed.

This attack is capable of striking at any targeted part of an enemy’s body, and swiftly closes distance with the focused foe. It can even track flying enemies like dragons, given that they are within range.

Undertaker in Combat

With her focus on maintaining pressure and bursts of additional damage, Undertaker easily holds her own on the front line.

Her skillset offers multiple options for darting back into the mid-range to cast an incantation or avoid a hit, then allows her to fly back to melee range in an instant for a massive stunning strike with her Ultimate Art.
