Community Bulletin Board #7 – Beasts & Monstrosities, Illustrated

The Blood of Dawnwalker Community Bulletin Board 7 Bestiary promotional artwork featuring a dark fantasy creature sculpture

Faces of the monsters lurking in Vale Sangora

Deep within Vale Sangora, unsettling creatures stalk the land — many of them born of folklore, legends, and… centuries of darkness.

The valley got acquainted with fear long before the arrival of Brencis. Monsters of every kind roamed the forests, mines, and ruins left behind by those long gone.

The Blood Guards are the most devoted and feared servants of the vrakhiri, a living proof of what it means to bow to an ancient power.

They undergo dark rites that bind their bodies and minds to blood-bound oaths. It is Xanthe who stripped them of their humanity, leaving nothing to reclaim. Enough to make one wonder what truly lies beneath those armors.

Despite their scrawny appearance, do not be fooled by kobolds. The mines are their territory — above the ground and below — and they know every tunnel, crack, and shadow within them.

They will attack in groups, striking when their prey is not paying attention, so tread carefully.

In the ancient ruins of Vale Sangora, forgotten for what feels like an eternity, one might believe that time has erased everything. Yet poor souls, driven by greed in search of lost riches, soon discover the truth.

Something remains. Something that refuses to be carried away by time. In many old legends, servants were buried alongside their masters so they might attend them even in death.

The creatures found within are neither living nor dead — something caught in between, stripped of everything they once were.

They had been warriors once, guardians bound to protect someone or something. But whatever made them human was long gone, leaving behind only a duty they could never put down.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Bestiary character art of the Psoglav, a corrupted canine dark fantasy enemy

In the wilds of Vale Sangora, roam creatures known as psoglavs. They resemble sickly wolves, unsettling, as evil runs through their veins, across every region of their dark, rotting flesh.

A vrakhiri fang lodged into the body of a canine is all it takes. The creature survives, but what rises is no longer the animal it once was — something darker takes hold, bound entirely to hunger and instinct.

A psoglav's hunger is never truly satisfied. Once locked onto prey, it will not stop until blood is spilled — being the only thing that can quiet the craving, even briefly.

Youth is a time of candor, when the world is understood through experience, where one must learn or fail by living it firsthand.

However, few Sangorans live long enough to see their grandchildren, let alone their great-grandchildren, and fewer still can pass on warnings about the dangers that lurk deep within the woods, the swamps, and the mountains.

Around the fireplace, the stories shared by shepherds and miners are often dismissed as superstition or foolishness, yet those tales endure for a reason. They are warnings, passed down not to entertain, but to prepare.

Zdislav, the alderman of Laslea – Coen’s home village – is one such exception. Within the pages of his diary, he records a solemn warning for future generations: fear the darkness, and beware the unknown.

To close this month's Community Bulletin Board, here's a question from our Discord :

Will there be any mythical creatures or monsters in the game, perhaps some from Slavic mythology?

There are some really cool creatures and monsters in our game, many of them inspired by folklore and various legends, such as the uriashi, likhos, kobolds, or tatzelwurms.
