Community Bulletin Board #2 - Svartrau Town Crier

Your questions will find their answers

Svartrau is the capital of Vale Sangora, the heart of Brencis' power. In the bustling marketplace, people are gathering to listen to the Town Crier answering some of the most frequently asked questions…

How does the time passing mechanic work in game?

Story-wise, Coen has 30 days and 30 nights to complete his main goal, which is to save his family.

The game doesn't end after that time passes, however Coen's family... might suffer the consequences.

The game doesn't have a regular clock – time doesn't continuously pass by so you don't have to worry about it while exploring the world. Exploration, combat, etc. does not push time forward at all.

Only finishing quests and some other actions (such as some specific dialogue options) affects time – they all have a specific "time cost", which means that if you complete them, a certain amount of time will pass (you'll always know how much beforehand, as indicated by a small hourglass icon).

Is there a morality system or is morality purely narrative/player-driven?

There is no black & white morality in our game, but nuances and shades of gray. Many storylines have layers of ambiguity – we want each player to draw their own conclusions about what is moral in our world.

You’ll have to make (meaningful) choices and face the consequences.

Can you be blood starved and if so will you attack humans?

Yes, there is a game mechanic called Blood Hunger that activates at night.

If Coen doesn't drink enough blood, he might lose control over his body and attack NPCs to drain their blood.

Can you share more information on the magic system?

Magic is available to Coen only during the day, as he has to carve runes into his body to actually use it.

There is a variety of offensive and defensive spells, such as the Burning Blood spell dealing damage over time, Feral Mind which prompts the enemy to start attacking random targets including their allies, or various buffs and debuffs affecting health, stamina, damage dealt, etc.

To learn new spells you'll have to find magical scrolls scattered around the world, and then unlock them (or upgrade them) with skill points.

How viable is the game in terms of replayability?

The game is designed in a way that makes replaying it enjoyable.

There will be a variety of choices to make and paths to follow, and of course consequences of those choices – which will significantly affect the plot, the characters, and the ending.

For this month’s Community Bulletin Board, Rebel Wolves Lead Quest Designer Rafał Jankowski is answering another one of your questions :

Are all vrakhiri Coen’s enemies, or is there any way to work with them?

" It was our strong ambition to not make all choices black or white, and whilst some battles might be inevitable, we sure hope that your decisions as Coen will lead you to understand a bit more of the vrakhiri side. Let's just say that maybe not all vampires have to die for you to be able to achieve your goals…"

If you have other questions, check out the FAQ on Discord, and if you still can’t find your answers, we are planning to host an AMA session on our subreddit in January.
